The University of Nigeria Nsukka (UNN) administration has confirmed the tragic passing of a first-year student whose body was discovered in a drainage near Akanu Ibiam Stadium on Friday, July 5.
The deceased, identified as Favour Okenyi from the Department of Medical Laboratory Science, was found in the drainage. Chief Okwun Omeaku, the university’s Acting Public Relations Officer, expressed shock over the incident in a statement issued in Nsukka on Sunday.
Omeaku appealed for any information that could assist investigations into the circumstances of the incident and identify those responsible. The statement also conveyed condolences to the family of the deceased and assured collaboration with security agencies to prevent such occurrences in the future.
“The University community was deeply saddened by the distressing discovery on Friday, July 5, of a lifeless body found in a drainage near Akanu Ibiam Stadium, UNN.
“The management extends heartfelt condolences to the family of the deceased for the tragic loss of such a promising young student.
“We are working closely with security agencies and the family to unravel the circumstances of her death and to prevent any potential recurrence,” the statement concluded.
