The Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA) has refuted recent media reports suggesting that the FCT Minister, Mr. Nyesom Wike, ordered the partial demolition of the National Mosque in Abuja.
In an official statement released by the FCDA, it categorically dismissed these reports as misleading and clarified that there was no directive from the FCT Minister to demolish the National Mosque.
The statement explained that members of the Abuja Mosque Management Committee, led by Alhaji Yahaya Abubakar, visited the Minister, and during the meeting, they requested more time to develop the two plots of land allocated to the National Mosque by the FCT Administration.
The allocation of Plot 63 was substantially affected by a future road development – the Inner Northern Expressway (INEX). The Minister directed Mr. Shehu Ahmad to provide him with a briefing on the issue of the National Mosque Lands within 24 hours. This directive was for clarifying the status of the lands allocated to the National Mosque, not for demolition.
The FCDA emphasized that the reports suggesting the demolition of the National Mosque are inaccurate and urged the public to consider this clarification as the true reflection of the events that transpired.
The Minister assured the delegation of the FCT Administration’s support in maintaining the National Mosque and the National Christian Center, both of which are considered National Monuments.
The FCDA expects that this explanation will put an end to the misrepresentation of the National Mosque’s situation in the media.
