Reports indicate that an unspecified count of villagers have allegedly been kidnapped, and many are feared dead in Yola village of Karaye Local Government Area in Kano State following a string of attacks by bandits.
A resident, speaking anonymously to Daily Trust, disclosed that the attacks occurred on different occasions in the village on Saturday. However, the exact number of abductions and casualties remains uncertain.
“On the first day of the attack, about four people were abducted, and two lost their lives. In the second attack, two individuals were abducted, and one was killed,” the resident shared, emphasizing the urgent need for army posts in Karaye to address these relentless attacks.
The Karaye and Rogo local government areas have been grappling with heightened insecurity threats, particularly due to Rogo’s proximity to Katsina and Kaduna states. In April 2023, bandits kidnapped a prominent businessman in Gangarbi Village of Rogo LGA, Alhaji Nasiru Na’ayya, resulting in one casualty.
In 2021, the Karaye Emirate raised concerns about the influx of illegal miners from Zamfara and implemented measures such as migrant registration to address the situation.
