The Federal Executive Council has approved the establishment of the Federal University of Health Sciences in Otukpo, Benue State.
The approval was given at Wednesday’s meeting of the Federal Executive Council presided over by President Muhammadu Buhari.
Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Mr. Femi Adesina, who announced this at the media briefing after the meeting, said that the council approved the draft bill for the establishment of the university.
Recall that the bill, sponsored by Senator Patrick Abba Moro representing Benue South Senatorial district, scaled through second reading in June 2021 at the Senate.
Moro had said the institution would bridge the gap associated with medical personnel if approved.
The establishment of the Federal University of Health Sciences, Otukpo will bring the number of federal universities in the country in 2021 to 50.
Meanwhile, academic activities had since commenced in the institution.
