A student of the Federal Polytechnic, Ilaro in Ogun State, identified as Samuel Adekoya has reportedly taken his life by consuming some chemical substance after losing his tuition fee to online betting.
Late Adekoya reportedly used his school fees and that of his friend to bet online but lost the bet.
The deceased who was a National Diploma II student of Electrical Electronic Engineering, was said to have committed suicide on Monday when his colleagues were preparing for their first-semester examination.
He also allegedly deceived his friend who was also his roommate by getting his password, after which he used his fee to play but also lost the bet.
Late Adegoke was said to have been rushed to the school clinic before being referred to a specialist hospital outside the school in Ilaro where he passed away.
Sola Abiala the Deputy Registrar, Public Relations of the school, who confirmed the incident said the school quickly referred the deceased to a specialist hospital to save his life but he passed away shortly after he was admitted there.
The Deputy Registrar who spoke with The Punch over the phone said “He died on Monday morning while the exam was about to start.
He added that the specialist hospital discovered that the deceased consumed a chemical distance.
