Federal University of Health Sciences Otukpo: JAMB sends strong warning to VC, others as recruitment, admission processes begin

Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Professor Is-haq Oloyede has urged the Management of the Federal University of Health Sciences, Otukpo (FUHSO), Benue State, to ensure that the institution’s recruitment and admission processes have national and global outlook.

He gave the charge when the management of Nigeria’s first ever federal university of health sciences, paid a visit to the Board on Wednesday, 28th October, 2020.

The FUSO delegation, led by the Vice-Chancellor of the University, Prof. Innocent Ujah. Included the Registrar of the university, Mr. Aminu Abba; the Provost of the College of Medicine, Prof. Oladapo Shittu; the Bursar, Mr. John Aba and Prof. John Idoko, a Council member.

In his remarks, the Registrar welcomed the delegation and commended them for the steps taken so far to ensure that the University started on a good footing. He disclosed that he was impressed with the quality of the institution’s Principal Officers and advised that they should continue to work to nurture the University to glorious heights.

Prof. Oloyede charged the Vice-Chancellor to ensure that the University is renowned worldwide. He said, “Do not localize the University. Please ensure that your recruitment and admission processes have national and global outlook. Recruit staff across the globe and the same goes for students. Admit from all States of the Federation and even outside the country, where you don’t have, look to other States and Nations as doing so would make your University a global Institution.”

He assured the University of the Board’s support and its readiness to offer any assistance that would reshape the nascent University in line with the dreams of its founding fathers while urging the University to leverage on the expertise of its Principal Officers to build a great institution.

JAMBulletin which reported the visit in its latest edition quoted the Vice-Chancellor as saying that his team visited the Board to seek its support so as to be part of the 2020/2021 Admission Exercise.

The weekly publication of the Office of JAMB Registrar made available by Dr. Fabian Benjamin, Head of Media stated that Prof. Ujah also said the visit was to intimate JAMB on the progress made so far in the commencement of both administrative and academic activities of what he referred to as the “First Federal University of Health Sciences in Nigeria” which, according to him, was designed to be “a world-class university.”

Prof. Ujah pointed out that the Management of the University would like to be guided by the Registrar on the b e s t w a y s t o e n s u r e p r o p e r commencement of academic activities especially with regard to the admission of candidates as well as effective strategies to make the University a top-class institution. He commended the Registrar for his forthrightness and resourcefulness in handling issues relating to the development of tertiary education in Nigeria.

 

He disclosed that the University would continue to count on the Board in its determination to be the best.
