Federal University of Health Sciences Otukpo: Just like bank of agriculture, we need bank of health – VC, Prof Ujah 

The Vice Chancellor, Federal University of Health Sciences, Otukpo, Prof Innocent Ujah, has called for the establishment of bank of health.

According to him, the health sector needs manpower and funding to improve the health of Nigerians.

He stated this on Monday at a public hearing and presentation of memoranda on four health-related bills organized by the senate committee on health at the national assembly on Monday, IDOMA VOICE reports.

Addressing newsmen during the public hearing, the VC called for support for the newly-approved health varsity.

He said, “We are here to contribute into national development through the bills, and also to improve health for Nigerians.

“We have a bill that is seeking to establish federal university of health sciences, which is already in place and I want to let you know that people support this bill because we need manpower to improve the health of Nigerians; doctors , nurses, pharmacists and all the elite in our medical profession, and I think this is the way to go.

“We also have bills to improve funding for health. As we all know, we have had very irregulars and in minimal support in terms health care financing; and we think this the way to go.

“I personally will want it to be transformed to help bank just like bank of agriculture and bank of industry. If bank of agriculture and bank of industry could exist why not bank for health. Therefore; in our own transformation and our own thinking if we ensure we have a sustainable founding for health so that our people can benefit from health. “
