In the capital city of Adamawa state, Yola, a tragic incident occurred where a female soldier, identified as Lance Corporal Nkiru, shot and killed a captain during a curfew enforcement. The captain was attempting to intervene in her altercation with civilians when the unfortunate incident took place.
Governor Ahmadu Fintiri had imposed the curfew after looters targeted government warehouses, leading to the theft of items, including those meant to alleviate the impact of fuel subsidy removal.
According to sources, despite claims of essential duty, the female soldier was adamant that motorists returning home during the curfew must turn back. When some individuals explained themselves as essential workers, a captain stepped in to mediate. However, the female soldier, who had already cocked her rifle, accidentally fired and fatally shot him.
The victim was rushed to the Federal Medical Centre, Yola, where he was pronounced dead. The suspect, the female soldier, was immediately arrested by fellow soldiers and taken into custody.
Prior to this incident, the female soldier had faced repeated accusations of harassing civilians and displaying aggressive behavior, often cocking her rifle with minimal provocation.
