The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has barred unvaccinated corps members from its camps nationwide.
Brigadier General Shuaibu Ibrahim, NYSC DG, who announced this, said the measure will take effect from the next orientation camp, which is a few weeks from now.
While addressing 2021 Batch “C” Stream Two Corps Members and Camp Officials, he said prospective corps members will now need to show evidence of vaccination from coronavirus before they would be allowed to register.
The DG said the scheme was trying to be careful not to allow the spread of the disease owing to the detection of the Omicron COVID variant in the country.
He warned that there is nothing like two weeks break after leaving the Orientation Camp, urging corps member to add value to themselves by acquiring skills that would make them business owners, instead of seeking for the scarcely available salaried jobs.
lbrahim also warned them to avoid embarking on night and unauthorised journeys, but break any journey extending beyond 6:00pm and pass the night in a safe place.
“We have NYSC Corps Lodges, Secretariats and Army barracks, find out where they are and make sure you pass the night there for journeys that will take you beyond six to get to your destination,” he noted.
