In honor of Nigeria’s 63rd Independence Day anniversary, the Federal Government has designated Monday, October 2, 2023, as a public holiday.
The declaration was made by the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, in Abuja on Thursday, as conveyed in a statement by the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Dr. Oluwatoyin Akinlade.
Dr. Tunji-Ojo affirmed the commitment of President Bola Tinubu-led administration to addressing the country’s challenges. He acknowledged the global nature of the socio-economic and security challenges and emphasized the government’s daily efforts to confront them.
He emphasized that the country’s potential could be realized through unity and collective effort. Dr. Tunji-Ojo highlighted Nigeria’s status as a leading black nation, showcasing its warm hospitality, abundant human capital, and natural resources, making it Africa’s pride and beacon of hope.
As the citizens prepare for an unforgettable independence celebration, the Minister recalled the unity of Nigeria’s founding fathers, despite differences in faith, tribe, and tongue, during the struggle for the nation’s freedom. He reiterated the administration’s commitment to a better Nigeria, aligning with the Renew Hope Agenda and honoring the sacrifices of the nation’s heroes.
