FG flags-off building for Benue flood victims

The federal government’s Presidential Committee on Flood Relief and Rehabilitation yesterday flagged off the building of two blocks of hostel in Makurdi, Benue State to serve as a permanent shelter for people who will be affected in any future natural disaster.
Leader of the committee’s delegation, John Owiocho while briefing the state’s deputy governor, Chief Steven Lawani about the project said that each of the two blocks would be expected to house male and female victims separately. He puts the cost of the project at N300 million.

He said: “since 2012 flood disaster, today marks the climax of the committee’s several efforts made stage-by-the stage to alleviate the sufferings of those affected. We have work in collaboration with the states to see prevention put in place and to find a permanent relief solution.

The two blocks of hostels would serve as permanent shelter should the disaster happen again in the future, primary schools would not be shut down.”
Responding, Lawani thanked the federal government for planning ahead so as to reduce the suffering of people who might be affected by natural disaster in future.
