Finidi makes emands from Super Eagles After 2-1 defeat to Benin

Following the Super Eagles’ 2-1 defeat to Benin Republic in a 2026 World Cup qualifier, head coach Finidi George has demanded heightened commitment from his players. This loss leaves Nigeria with only three points from their first four games in the qualification campaign.

Raphael Onyedika scored for the three-time African champions, but goals from Jodel Dossou and Steve Mounie secured victory for Gernot Rohr’s Benin Republic team.

Despite the setback, Finidi insists that the Super Eagles cannot afford to give up and must refocus for their next game against Rwanda in March 2025. Speaking to reporters, Finidi emphasized the need for dedication and hard work from the players as they look to revive their World Cup hopes.

“There is no other formula for that. We have to see how the players will start the new season and see how we can get the best out of them,” Finidi stated. “Everybody must be committed because with that commitment, we will win games.”

He continued, “If we can win games, the battle will still be there. We can’t throw in the towel because we have just three points. We have to find a way to get these players back in a way for them to perform.”
