Fintiri, Zulum, Umahi, El-Rufai, others to be honoured at Most Valuable Governor’s Wife Awards 2021

The Most Valuable Governor’s Wife Awards: Promoting Grassroot Development in Nigeria

The Most Valuable Governor’s Wife AwardS (MVGWA) is coming up on the 23rd of March 2021 at the Sheraton Hotel, Abuja at 6:00pm and this is the 4th edition.

The MVGWA is designed to lead a new phenomenon in the assessment and recognition of the Governors wives who are providing complementary achievements to the Governors achievements. The Governors wives have become part of the democratic team that have been providing grassroot development, hence the institution of this award.

The 36 Governors wives and the wife of the FCT Minister are assessed based on their projects availabilities in the public domain and their impacts on their beneficiaries are considered. Thereafter, the Governors wives shortlist come from impact of their projects experienced by the beneficiaries in their various localities with the Assessment team of the MVGWA, adopting these criteria; Sustainability, Empowerment, Impact, Change Agent and Corporate Branding (SEICC), according to global best practices.

The earlier editions were held in Abuja (since 2014, 2015 and 2017) at the Abuja Sheraton Hotel and Towers where the amiable Governors wives whose NGOs made public impacts received the golden sculpture for the first time in the history of Nigeria. The past keynote speakers were Mrs. FolorunshoAlakija (The richest black woman in the world) in 2014; HajiaFati Abubakar (Former First Lady of Nigeria and wife of the Former Head of State) in 2015 and Chief Mrs. Titi Abubakar (Former Vice President wife) in 2017.

The award recipients for 2021 are Their Excellencies, Hajia Fintiri, wife of the governor of Adamawa state with her Fresh Air Pro-Life Empowerment Foundation and its unique selling point of discouraging early marriages in Adamawa State, Dr. Aisha Bala Mohammed, wife of the governor of Bauchi State with her Al-Muhibba Foundation and its unique selling point cemetery upgrade/beautification,and smart agriculture for indigent women in FCT/Bauchi State (She is a second time winner of the award), Dr. Falmata Zulum, wife of the Governor of Borno State with her Multi Aids and Charity Initiatives and its unique selling point of sustainable cancer awareness at the grassroot, Mrs. Rachael Umahi, wife of the Governor of Ebonyi State with her Family Succour and Upliftment Foundation and its unique selling point of providing 400 wheelchairs to disable persons, Mrs. Betsy Obaseki, wife of the Governor of Edo State with her Edo Women for Agric and Enterprise and its unique selling point of collaborating with BOI to disbursed interest free loan to 2000 women to do business in the state, EreluBisi Fayemi, the wife of the Ekiti State Governor with her Ekiti Development Foundation and its unique selling point of Agric and Economic Development owned by citizens of Ekiti State, Hajia HadizaIsma El-Rufai, the wife of the Governor of Kaduna State with her Yasmin El-Rufai Foundation and its unique selling point of running an Outreach of General Creative Writing Program on Women Literacy, Dr. HafsatGanduje, wife of the Governor of Kano State with her Ganjule Foundation and its unique selling pointof providing succour to 5,500 vulnerable personsin treating of eye challenges, Hajiya Zakkiya Masari, wife of the Governor of Katsina State with her Women, Youth & Children Support Initiative with its unique selling point of Agriculture for Women and Job Creation,Mrs. Folake Abdulrazaq, wife of the governor of Kwara state with her Ajike People’s Support Center and it unique selling point of self-reliant and entrepreneurship, Mrs Kafayat Oyetola, wife of the governor of Osun State with her Ileri Oluwa Development Initiative and it unique selling point of Training Vegetable Female Farmer Employment Scheme, Mrs. Regina Lalong, wife of the governor of Plateau State with her Support Women Initiative to Transform Children (SWITCH) with it unique selling point of breathlife campaign, Hajia Maryam M.A Tambuwal, wife of the governor of Sokoto State with her Maryam Mairowaziri Tambuwal Legacy initiative, with her unique selling point of Control against erosion, flood, desertification and tree planting in school by women in Sokoto, Barr. Mrs. Anna Ishayku, wife of the governor of Taraba State with her Hope Afresh Foundation and its unique selling point of Launching a 12 weeks programme which start-up Capital offered, Hajia Aisha Matawalle, wife of the governor of Zamfara State with her Girl Child Education and a unique selling point of reducing beggars on the street (Girls) and declared state of emergency on girl’s child education in Zamfara State.

The award has 15 recipients accumulative within 3 years without holding the awards due to various reason, so 2021 provides the opportunity to jointly do the awards.

This edition of the award is being carefully packaged with COVID-19 guidelines.
