Goods worth millions of naira were destroyed in a fire that ravaged 40 shops at Oranyan Market in Ibadan, Oyo State.

The blaze, which occurred in the herbal section of the market located in Ibadan North East Local Government Area, broke out on Saturday. As of Wednesday, the cause of the fire had not been determined.

Senator Sharafadeen Abiodun Alli, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Electoral Matters, described the incident as a significant setback for the affected traders. Alli, who represents Oyo South Senatorial District, made this statement through his Special Adviser on Media, Akeem Abas.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) senator assured the traders of his continued support and urged relevant government agencies, individuals, and organizations to assist the victims.

“I urge the authorities to expedite investigations into the cause of the fire and implement preventive measures to avoid a recurrence,” he stated. “The government should provide immediate assistance to help the affected traders recover from their losses and rebuild their businesses.”

He also called on compassionate individuals and organizations to offer support, emphasizing the need for unity during this difficult time. Senator Alli reassured the victims that he would continue to advocate for their welfare and work towards securing the necessary aid.
