Fire torched part of a Guaranty Trust Bank building in the Amuwo Odofin area of Lagos State on Friday.
It was learnt that emergency responders were deployed in the bank to salvage the situation following a distress call.
The Director-General, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, who confirmed the development, said the fire was caused by a power surge from an air conditioner in the bank, adding that no casualties were recorded.
He said, “The Agency activated its team around 7:49am this morning in response to the distress calls concerning a fire outbreak at GTbank, in Amuwo Odofin.
“Upon arrival at the scene of the incident, information gathered by the LRU Fire Team indicated that the flames observed at the top of the bank building were as a result of a power surge from one of the air conditioners in the office.
“The combined response of the agency’s firefighters and the Lagos Fire Service prevented the fire from spreading to other units of the bank and adjourning buildings.
