Nigerian artist Divine Ikubor, popularly known as Rema, has set a new milestone with his song ‘Calm Down Remix’ featuring Selena Gomez, marking the first Afrobeats track to reach 1 billion views on YouTube.
As of Saturday, a check confirmed that the music video, uploaded on Gomez’s YouTube channel two years ago, has surpassed the billion-view mark, making it the first Nigerian song to achieve this milestone.
‘Calm Down Remix’ also holds the record as the fastest African song to reach 1 billion views on YouTube, achieving this feat in just two years.
The original version of the song has amassed over 619 million views on the platform.
In August last year, ‘Calm Down Remix’ with Selena Gomez became the first African song to cross the billion mark on Spotify, where it now has over 1.5 billion streams.
