First red card of #FIFAWWC goes to 19-year-old Deborah Abiodun

In a moment of high intensity during the ongoing FIFA Women’s World Cup, 19-year-old Deborah Abiodun of Nigeria made history as she received the tournament’s first red card.

While a yellow was initially shown to Abiodun for a bad challenge on Lawrence, the referee heads to the sideline to have a second look via the VAR.

The final decision results in a red card for Abiodon.

Deborah plays for the University of Pittsburgh’s Women Soccer Team in the United States.
