The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has confirmed the deaths of five soldiers in an ambush by Boko Haram and ISWAP terrorists in Borno State.
According to Major General Edward Buba, Director of Defence Media Operations, the attack also left ten soldiers wounded, with four others reported missing. The terrorists destroyed military equipment during the assault, including a gun truck, three TCVs, and an excavator.
Despite the ambush, the troops retaliated, killing several terrorists and recovering weapons. A reinforcement team, supported by air components, was deployed to track the terrorists’ escape route and secure the area.
The incident occurred in Gubio Local Government Area of Borno State. Major General Buba stated, “The coordinated attack resulted in five soldiers killed, ten wounded, and four missing, while troops eliminated several terrorists and recovered weapons.”
The DHQ emphasized its unwavering commitment to tackling terrorism and other security threats across the country, stating, “Such attacks will not deter the Nigerian Armed Forces from achieving their mission of ending terrorism and insurgency in the nation.”
Borno State Governor Babagana Zulum condemned the attack, reaffirming the state government’s loyalty and support for the military in their ongoing fight against insurgents.
