The Rivers State Police Command has arrested five individuals suspected of involvement in the murder of Chief Ndidi Livingstone, the former Community Development Committee (CDC) Chairman for Mgbuoshimini, Rumueme, in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area.
Commissioner of Police Mr. Disu Olatunji informed reporters in Port Harcourt that following the murder, the command initiated a nationwide search to capture those responsible.
It was reported that Livingstone was killed in front of his wife and son during a church service on January 13.
Olatunji revealed that the FID-Intelligence Response Team and police personnel later identified nine suspects, including the alleged mastermind behind the killing.
He noted that five suspects were killed by gunfire while resisting arrest.
“The operation’s mastermind, Peter Chukwu, was tracked to his hideout in Ibusa, Delta, on April 5. He was killed during a confrontation with law enforcement,” Olatunji said.
The Commissioner listed other suspects involved as Adebayo Adebayo, 48; Success Oge, 39; Nnamdi Emmanuel, 35; John Lucas, 34; and Sunday Godspower, 33.
Additionally, Ifeanyi Nwadike, 30; Chigemezu Anochirimoyeanya, 29; Chimezie Adiele, 29; and Ogolo Promise, 25, were also identified.
He further said that four of the suspects, Adebayor, Emmanuel, Lucas and Promise, led the police to the gang’s hideout in Aluu Village, where their cache of weapons was recovered.
“As our personnel approached the hideout, they came under heavy fire from suspected gang members. The four suspects attempted to flee during the ambush but were caught in the crossfire and died,” he clarified.
Their bodies have been taken to the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital morgue for autopsy.
Olatunji said that two AK-47 rifles, two SMG rifles, an assault rifle, a shotgun rifle, a pistol, 10 magazines, and 150 rounds of live ammunition were recovered from the gang, NAN reports.
