Flamingos head to Morocco for final World Cup preparations
Nigeria’s U-17 women’s football team, the Flamingos, are set to arrive in Casablanca, Morocco, to begin final preparations ahead of the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup.
The team will camp in the country’s commercial hub before proceeding to Rabat for the tournament proper.
During their stay in Casablanca, the Flamingos are scheduled to play two high-profile international friendlies, the first against New Zealand on October 10, followed by another clash with Paraguay on October 14.
The team will then move into the official FIFA hotel in Rabat on October 15, joining other participating nations ahead of kick-off.
Drawn in Group D, Nigeria will compete alongside Canada, France, and Samoa.
The Flamingos begin their campaign against Canada on Sunday, October 19, before taking on France three days later.
Both matches will kick off at 8 p.m. Nigerian time at the Mohammed VI Football Academy pitches in Sale. Their final group game comes against Samoa on October 25, with kickoff set for 5 p.m.
Head Coach Bankole Olowookere’s side enter the competition brimming with confidence, having played 10 preparatory matches in which they scored 44 goals without conceding.
The team’s formidable form and depth have fueled optimism that they can surpass their quarter-final finish at the last edition in the Dominican Republic.
