Flood destroy 3,000 houses, farm produces worth billions of naira in Konshisha, Benue
At least 3,000 homes and farm produces worth billions of naira have been reportedly destroyed following torrential rainfall which resulted to flood in Konshisha Local Government Area of Benue State.
Hundreds of families were said to have been displayed by the flood in addition to properties worth billions of naira also taken away by the flood.
IDOMA VOICE gathered that the flood which happened through Friday night to Saturday morning affected 4 out of the 11 council wards of the local government.
Wide areas of farmland is under water, destroying crops.
A resident of the area who gave his name simply as Tever told our correspondent that they are now stranded adding that the wooden bridge along Korinya-Vandeikya road that serves as exist root from the area was completely submerged and destroyed by the flood.
“As I am talking to you now, the old weak vulnerable bridge is tired of standing on weak shoulders and has decided to join it’s ancestors. The ancient bridge could not handle the intensity of yesterday rain and submerged in water cutting access again,” he told IDOMAVOICE on Sunday morning.
He lamented that the government is not doing anything about the deplorable state of the bridge despite collecting taxes from poor farmers.
“For those of us that are conversant with this area, we know that the problem of this bridge is not new but I don’t know why it’s taking our leaders so long to take our people out of this misery.
Meanwhile, the masses are playing their part by paying taxes to the government without anything to show for it,” he said.
Efforts by our correspondent to get comment of the executive secretary State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) Dr. Emmanuel Shior, on the flood disaster in Konshisha proved abortive as he didn’t respond to calls put across to his telephone lines on Sunday morning.
