The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) with Rt. Hon. George Alli, on Wednesday 2nd December 2020, distributed relief materials to victims of the 2020 flood in Otukpo.
The NEMA delegation which was led by Mr. Eugene Neylong, North Central Coordinator of the agency, disclosed that they were in Otukpo to distribute the materials to flood Victims in line with President Muhammadu Buharis directive. Mr. Neylong also thanked the Otukpo Council Chairman for his smooth handling of affairs concerning the distribution.
He said that the food and other relief materials were for 2020 flood victims in Otukpo Local Government Areas.
Neylong said that the items would be given directly to the beneficiaries in accordance with the enumeration exercise the agency carried out for flood victims four weeks ago.
The items distributed included rice; beans; roofing sheet; cloths; vegetable oil; mattresses; diapers; sanitary pads; seasoning; zinc among others.
The distribution is being made in partnership with the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) and other relevant stakeholders.
The Otukpo Council Chairman, Rt. Hon. George Alli said, “yearly our people have had to contend with the effects of perennial flooding. Despite efforts made to reduce its effects flood still affected our people in 2020”.
He said the items would be distributed to all the victims accordingly through the Counselors of the 13 wards of Otukpo LG. The goods were given to the counselors to take to their Wards. Some counselors were not so lucky as some people pounced on the relief materials meant for some wards. Hon. Alli there after visited one of the villages were the items was handed to representative of a community that was affected by the floor. Many homes and farming communities was ravaged by flood in 2020.
