Former Aviation Minister, Hadi Sirika in DSS custody over Nigeria Air launch controversy

Former aviation minister, Hadi Sirika, has come under scrutiny by Nigeria’s secret police, the Department of State Services (DSS), regarding the recent “launch” of Nigeria Air.

Reports indicate that Sirika was detained by the DSS on Thursday and taken to their headquarters in Abuja for questioning. He arrived at the location in a Range Rover SUV and underwent hours of interrogation by DSS officials.

The investigation was prompted by the acting managing director of Nigeria Air, Captain Dapo Olumide, who disclosed that the aircraft presented as Nigeria Air during the launch was, in fact, a chartered plane from Ethiopian Airlines. It was revealed that the aircraft used to unveil the Nigeria Air logo was not operational and had a history of being over 10 years old, previously operated by Ethiopian Airlines and Malawi Airlines.

The “launch” of Nigeria Air has faced severe criticism, with many considering it a scam. Journalist David Hundeyin has also exposed alleged corruption, underhand dealings, and malfeasance surrounding the establishment and eventual launch of the supposed national carrier.
