Former customary court president killed in Makurdi residence

Mrs. Margaret Igbeta, a former President of the Customary Court of Appeal, tragically lost her life at her residence on Wantor Kwange Street in Makurdi. The 72-year-old was discovered lifeless in her home, her body lying in a pool of blood in one of her rooms on Thursday evening.

News of her assassination emerged on Friday, shedding light on the disturbing details of her demise. The scene indicated signs of a violent crime, leading to suspicions of assassination. Despite the incident, the identities of her assailants remained unknown as reported by security officials. The Benue State Police Command promptly ordered the removal of her body from the residence.

The house where the former jurist resided is situated opposite Benue State University College of Medicine along Gboko road in Makurdi. The news of her passing drew a crowd of sympathizers to her residence seeking confirmation.

A police officer, speaking to select journalists in Makurdi, confirmed the unfortunate event, suggesting that the killing might have occurred earlier than initially reported due to the state of the body. “Yes, it’s true. Yesterday, Thursday her lifeless body was discovered in her house but the corpse was not looking too good again meaning that it couldn’t have happened yesterday; maybe a day before yesterday, Wednesday,” the officer remarked.
