Former Jigawa State Governor and founding member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Sule Lamido, has formally declared his intention to contest for the position of national chairman of the party.
Lamido, who also served as Minister of Foreign Affairs, made the announcement on Monday through a post on his official Facebook page, expressing his confidence in his ability to rebuild and reposition the PDP ahead of future elections.
“By the grace of God, I shall today, Monday, 27th October 2025, by 11 a.m., be at Wadata Plaza, the national headquarters of our great party, the Peoples Democratic Party, to purchase the nomination form to run for the office of national chairman,” Lamido wrote.
He said his decision was driven by his commitment to restoring the party’s integrity, strengthening internal democracy, and returning the PDP to its “old glory.”
“My commitment to democracy and resolve to restore our dear party to its old glory is unstoppable,” he stated.
Lamido’s declaration comes ahead of the PDP national convention scheduled to hold on November 15 and 16 in Ibadan, Oyo State, where new members of the National Working Committee (NWC) are expected to emerge.
In line with the party’s zoning arrangement, the position of national chairman has been zoned to the North, and further micro-zoned to the North-West region.
Other prominent figures reportedly interested in the position include former Kaduna State Governor, Ahmed Makarfi, and former Minister of Special Duties and Intergovernmental Affairs, Kabiru Turaki.
