Former Governor of Oyo State, Dr. Victor Omololu Olunloyo, has died at the age of 89, just days before his 90th birthday.
The elder statesman passed away in the early hours of Sunday, leaving behind a legacy of public service and academic excellence.
Olunloyo, who served as governor of Oyo State for a brief period, was also a distinguished mathematician, engineer, and technocrat.
He held several prominent positions during his lifetime, including being the first Rector of both The Polytechnic, Ibadan and Kwara State Polytechnic. He also held traditional titles such as the Balogun of Oyo and Otun Bobasewa of Ife.
His death was announced in a statement signed by Barrister Oladapo Ogunwusi, on behalf of the family.
The statement expressed deep sorrow but also gratitude for a life well-lived, noting Olunloyo’s remarkable contributions to the nation. The family has appealed for public understanding and privacy as they begin arrangements for a befitting burial.
