Former PDP leader, Toby Okechukwu resigns

Toby Okechukwu, a former Deputy Minority Leader of the House of Representatives and ex-Chief of Staff to the Deputy Speaker, has officially resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Naija News reports that Okechukwu was recently appointed Executive Director of Projects for the South East Development Commission by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

In his resignation letter, dated December 6, 2024, and addressed to the PDP chairman of Owelli/Amoli/Ugbo/Ogugu Ward in Awgu Local Government Area, Enugu State, Okechukwu expressed gratitude to the party for the opportunities it provided throughout his political career.

Okechukwu, who served as the representative for Aninri/Awgu/Oji River Federal Constituency of Enugu State in the 7th, 8th, and 9th National Assemblies, highlighted his achievements in various leadership roles.

The letter reads:
“I hereby notify you of my resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party and extend my heartfelt appreciation to the party for the platform it provided, allowing me to represent Aninri/Awgu/Oji River Federal Constituency in the 7th, 8th, and 9th National Assemblies.

“As Deputy Chairman of the Committee on Ethics and Privileges, Chairman of the Committee on Works, and Deputy Minority Leader, we made significant strides in advancing key infrastructure projects, including initiating work on the Second Niger Bridge, Abuja-Kano Road, and Lagos-Ibadan Road.

“Additionally, we revamped and passed the COREN Bill, which was later signed into law by the President, strengthening engineering practices in Nigeria.

“I remain hopeful that, moving forward, we will collectively work for the betterment of our people.”
