‘Fornication is not a sin’ — Falz

Nigerian rapper and activist Falz has sparked a wave of controversy after stating on social media that fornication should not be considered a sin.

The outspoken artist made the comment via his X (formerly Twitter) account on Sunday, writing simply:

“Fornication is not a sin.”

The post quickly went viral, garnering over one million views and igniting a heated debate online.

While some fans defended Falz’s right to express his beliefs, others accused him of encouraging moral decay and promoting values that contradict religious teachings.

One supporter tried to back the claim with scripture, referencing Exodus 22:16:

“He is right. Fornication is not a sin in the Bible; it’s a modern or western construct. In the Jewish tradition, if a man sleeps with a young woman and it’s consensual, he pays her bride price and marries her.”

Despite the backlash, Falz has not issued a follow-up statement. The post comes at a time when the artist has remained vocal about societal issues, including governance, justice, and now, morality.

His comment adds to a growing trend of public figures questioning long-held religious and cultural norms—a move that continues to divide opinion across Nigeria’s conservative and liberal audiences.
