The Rivers State Police Command has paraded four suspected members of the Indigenous People of Biafra for allegedly looting the Afam Police Station in the Oyigbo Local Government Area of the state.
The spokesman for the command, Nnamdi Omoni, who disclosed this to newsmen in Port Harcourt on Tuesday, said the suspects were arrested by the personnel of the Divisional Police Station following a tip-off.
Our correspondent recalls that the Afam Police Station was among the four allegedly set ablaze by members of IPOB, who hijacked the #EndSARS protest in the state.
Omoni gave names of the suspects as John Eme, 28; Ikechu Sunday, 42; Chibuzor Vincent, 45; and Okorie Anthony, adding that some of the items recovered from them were television sets, speakers, police uniform and computer.
He stated, “Don’t forget that on October 21, the Afam Police Station was looted by hoodlums suspected to be IPOB members. After which they set it ablaze.
“A week after that incident, the Commissioner of Police issued a warning and gave a marching order to DPOs that they should ago after the looters of the police stations and ensure that these items were recovered in record time.
“Following the CP’s directive, they all swung into action and today, that directive has paid off by the arrest of these ones. They have confessed to have looted the station and are making further statements that will lead to the arrest of others.
“As it is they will be taken to the State Criminal and Investigation Department for further interrogation.”
Speaking to journalists at the police headquarters in Port Harcourt, the suspects denied any involvement in the looting, with one of them saying the speakers and televisions were found with his tenants and that he was surprised to be arrested by the police.
