Four more PDP governors set to join APC
The All Progressives Congress (APC) says at least four incumbent governors from opposition parties are in advanced discussions to join the ruling party before the end of 2025.
According to the APC, the move is part of its broader strategy to consolidate political influence and strengthen its base ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The party’s National Vice Chairman (South-East), Dr. Ijeoma Arodiogbu, made this known in an interview, identifying the governors of Plateau, Taraba, Rivers, and Abia States as those being courted by the APC.
“It is a possibility that the Plateau governor will join us, likewise his Taraba counterpart. We are also looking forward to receiving Rivers Governor Siminalayi Fubara and Governor Alex Otti of Abia State in our midst,”
Arodiogbu stated.
He disclosed that discussions with the governors have reached advanced stages and that their defection could occur “in the coming weeks.”
“Most of these defections are expected to happen before the end of this year. Once they happen, it will further confirm that the APC remains the dominant and most organised political platform in Nigeria,”
he added.
Arodiogbu attributed the party’s growing influence to its reform-driven agenda and inclusive leadership style, which he said continue to attract prominent political figures across the country.
He also emphasised that the APC National Chairman has maintained an open-door policy for politicians interested in joining the party.
“The national chairman has emphasised that the APC remains open to all. We are welcoming individuals of goodwill who support President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda,”
Arodiogbu said.
The APC chieftain expressed optimism that the anticipated defections would further strengthen the party ahead of its 2025 congresses and enhance its prospects going into the 2027 elections.
