Fr Alia could have won his election in 2023 without Idoma votes – Benue lawmaker, Angbo
A member of the Benue State House of Assembly, Hon. Kennedy Angbo, has stated that Governor Hyacinth Alia could have won the 2023 governorship election in the state even without the votes of the Idoma people.
Angbo, who represents Otukpo/Akpa State Constituency, made the comment while responding to criticism that followed his recent statement that he would not support any Idoma aspirant for the Benue State governorship in the 2027 general election, IDOMA VOICE reports.
In an interview with EbonyNaija, the lawmaker said that the key factors determining electoral success go beyond ethnicity.
“It is important to understand that advocacy, popularity, population, voter participation, and voter registration are crucial,” he said.
“These are the elements that determine whether an Idoma person can contest successfully. In the last election, the governor won with a vote margin larger than the total number of votes from the entire Zone C (Idoma region). This means that, technically, he could have won without the Zone C votes. Does that not make you angry as an Idoma man?”
