Francisca Ordega, born on 19th October 1993, is a highly skilled Nigerian professional footballer, excelling as a forward for CSKA Moscow in the Russian Women’s Football Championship. She is also an integral part of the Nigeria women’s national football team, fondly known as the Super Falcons.
Club Career: Ordega’s club career showcases her journey across various continents and her contributions to top clubs. She began her professional football journey with Bayelsa Queens, rising through the ranks from the youth level in 2008. In 2011, she moved to the esteemed club Rivers Angels, further establishing herself as a formidable forward.
Her talents eventually caught the attention of Russian champions WFC Rossiyanka in 2012, where she joined the Russian Women’s Football Championship. She later ventured into the Swedish Damallsvenskan, playing for Piteå IF and making a significant impact with 34 appearances and four goals.
Ordega continued to shine when she joined the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) in the United States with Washington Spirit. Her impressive performances, including crucial goals, helped the team reach the NWSL Semifinals and the NWSL Championship for the first time in its history.
She also made history as the first African to play in the Australian W-League when she signed on loan with Sydney FC in 2016. In 2017, she joined Spanish club Atlético Madrid on a six-month loan. She later secured a move to Shanghai WFC and then signed with Levante UD in 2021, aiming to boost the team’s pursuit of Champions League football.
International Career: Francisca Ordega has been an integral part of the Nigeria women’s national football team at various levels. She represented Nigeria at the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup in 2010 and the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup in 2012. Her contributions to the Super Falcons have been vital in major tournaments like the FIFA Women’s World Cup and the African Women’s Championship.
She has scored crucial goals for Nigeria, including the opening goal against Sweden in the 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup, a match that ended in a thrilling 3–3 draw. Ordega played a significant role in Nigeria’s victories at the African Women’s Championship in 2010, 2014, 2016, and 2018, as well as the 2018 Africa Women Cup of Nations.
In addition to her domestic and international successes, Ordega’s honors include the Nigerian Women’s Cup with Rivers Angels and the Primera División with Atlético Madrid.
