Free medical services: Samson Okwu exposed

By Ade Joseph Otor

I was beserked when I saw a media reportage of Joe Ipenyi heralding Hon.Samson Okwu’s free medical services in Oju and Obi Local Government Areas.According to the publicity, it seems Hon.Samson Okwu is embarking on a magnanimous free medical services in his constituency, Oju/Obi Federal Constituency. Without playing politics, this would have been a celebrated altruistic gesture if only details are not known or allowed to be manipulated.
Remember, I inundated the Igede cyber community of my resolve to monitor federal projects in Igede with a view to tracking and examining their utility impacts on the populace. You will agree with me after reading this that I m keeping to my promise. You will also see how some federal legislators are not fair with facts to their constituents.

It may interest you to know that free medical services is a federal government programme under the Federal Ministry of Health. These services are carried out across the different local governments in the country. Budgetary allocations were made for this programme by the federal government through parastatals. You may scout for the 2017 appropriation and verify.
My findings revealed that free medical services in Obi LG was awarded to an NGO early December by Federal Medical Centre,Makurdi. Obi Local Government is targeted this time because the exercise was recently conducted in Oju LGA.
I m particularly worried when Honourable Members make it look to the unsuspecting public as if they are bankrolling this programme. It is not their programme. Rather, some of them make a trade out of this. This is a federal government programme contemplated to helping the poor masses with medicare. The federal government is expending a fortune on this programme and, nobody should be allowed to cheaply take its glory. It makes no difference if these programmes are carried out in your constituency or by chance, you somehow facilitated anything in it. Are you the one paying?
The era of cheap credit or vain glory is over in Igede land. We have become more discerning, analytical, investigative, conscious and evaluative. We won’t accept everything as presented to us.
