Tension and unrest have broken out at Rukpokwu,in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State after a policeman shot dead a commercial tricycle (keke napep) driver over alleged refusal to pay N100 bribe.
The incident which happened on Thursday, December 10 around 7 am, on Airport road has led to protest in the area.
Multiple sources allege that a policeman shot the driver for refusing to pay a N100 bribe.
The development has also caused gridlock on the airport road as angry youths and colleagues of the murdered driver blocked and set bonfires on the road.
Reacting to this, the Police Public Relations Officer in Rivers, SP Nnamdi Omoni, said men of the force have been deployed to the area to contain the situation.
This is coming nearly two months after the #Endsars protest when youths across the country called for the scrapping of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) police unit who were notoriously exploiting the citizens.
