Dr J.Y. Musa, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, SAN, has criticised political leaders in Idoma land for failing to meet the developmental needs of the people, saying Chief Godwin Obla’s intervention at the Federal University of Health Sciences Teaching Hospital, Otukpo, FUHSTHO, has demonstrated the kind of leadership the community needs.

Musa made the remarks during the commissioning of a 23-bed amenity ward and a two-bed intensive care unit, ICU, donated by Obla to FUHSTHO in Benue State.

He said the intervention would not have been necessary if political leaders had lived up to their responsibilities, but described it as essential because of what he considered their failure to provide the needed support.

“Our political leaders may have failed us in many respects. This intervention would not be necessary if the political elites had carried their burden. But it is necessary because they failed,” he said.

Musa described Obla’s initiative as an example of the Idoma spirit needed to drive development and take the community to greater heights.

“This is the Idoma we need. This is the Idoma that can take us to our next levels,” he said.

He also commended Obla for bringing together professionals who shared his vision for the development of the area, noting that it was not easy to assemble people with different professional backgrounds around a common purpose.

According to him, the professionals involved in the intervention trusted Obla’s vision and were willing to contribute their expertise because of their confidence in his leadership.

Musa further described Obla as a destiny helper, explaining that their relationship went beyond friendship and had played a significant role in his professional journey.

He recalled that Obla, who became the first Senior Advocate of Nigeria from Idoma land in 2013, supported him in attaining the same rank in 2017.

The senior advocate said Obla took him to Port Harcourt to introduce him to a friend, an experience he described as instrumental to his professional development.

“I must not forget in a hurry. Let me mention that the rank does not put food on the table. You took me all the way to Port Harcourt to introduce me to your friend. The rank has meaning today because of the foundation that you gave me,” he said.

Musa added that attaining the rank of SAN was not enough without a platform to demonstrate one’s professional capacity, thanking Obla for providing him with such an opportunity.

He urged the people to recognise and appreciate individuals who make meaningful contributions to the development of Idoma land.
