Fulani herdsmen return to Agatu, kill 17 fishermen

No fewer than 17 persons have been killed and several others injured after suspected herdsmen attacked fishermen in Ebete village, Agatu LGA of Benue State on Wednesday.

It was gathered that the fishermen were going about their business on the River Benue when the heavily armed herdsmen swooped on them, killing seventeen persons on the spot.

A reliable source said other fishermen escaped with machete cuts.

Confirming the incident, the member of House of Representatives representing Apa/Agatu constituency, Adamu Entonu, described the attack as barbaric, primitive and capable of endangering our nascent democracy.

Entonu strongly condemned the killings and urged security agencies to ensure that those responsible are apprehended and prosecuted according to the law of the land.
