Fulani invasion: Peace finally returns to Agatu

Police in Benue State yesterday said calm had returned to Agatu area of the state after Sunday onslaught against four communities by gunmen suspected to be Fulani herders.
Spokesman of the police, DSP John Bako, told our correspondent that normal activities had resumed, just as the command had deployed more policemen to the area.

Daily Trust gathered from people of the area that despite the normalcy, there were rumours of impending attacks.
While hundreds of villagers had fled to Otukpo or other neighbouring towns for safety, a native said yesterday that there was still mass exodus of people from the troubled riverine communities of Agatu.
Seventeen people were allegedly killed in the Sunday morning attack but the police confirmed the death of only five persons.
Locals said eight people were killed in Abugbe, three bodies recovered from Okololo while two from Ochonlonya and four others in Ogwule villages respectively.
