Full list: Nigerian food items that are not allowed in the UK

Many Nigerians love bringing local delicacies to the UK, but strict import rules prohibit certain food items to protect public health and agriculture.
Food items Nigerians cannot bring to the UK
Meat and Dairy Products
The UK bans all meat and dairy products from Nigeria due to disease prevention regulations. Prohibited items include:
- Raw, cooked, or processed meats like beef, goat, chicken, and suya.
- Dairy products such as milk, cheese, butter, and yogurt.
- Nigerian meat dishes like kilishi and nkwobi.
- Meat-filled pastries, including meat pies and sausage rolls.
Fish and Seafood
While some processed seafood is allowed, restrictions apply to:
- Fresh or raw fish unless gutted and cleaned.
- Smoked or dried fish that is not commercially packaged.
- Unprocessed crayfish and prawns.
- Stockfish that lacks proper import certification.
Fruits, Vegetables, Nuts, and Seeds
Strict regulations prevent the entry of fresh plant-based foods due to pest risks. Prohibited items include:
- Fresh fruits like mangoes, oranges, and pawpaw (papaya) without certification.
- Vegetables such as ugu, bitter leaves, and scent leaves.
- Raw nuts and seeds, including groundnuts and egusi, unless processed and packaged.
Travelers should check UK import guidelines before packing food to avoid confiscation at the airport.
