Governor Hyacinth Alia has charged the Local Government Chairmen in Benue State to deliver quality services to the people at the local level. This directive was given during the swearing-in ceremony of the local government caretaker committee chairmen at the Benue State Government House in Makurdi on Thursday, June 6th, 2024.

The governor had previously requested an extension of the tenure of the caretaker committees from the Benue State House of Assembly, to give the Benue State Independent Electoral Commission (BSIEC) enough time to prepare and conduct local government council elections.

The State House of Assembly screened and confirmed the governor’s list of nominees, replacing only Mr. Timothy Hembaor from Ushongo Local Government Area with Hon. Mvendaga Atetan.

During the ceremony, the governor urged the Chairmen to forfeit excuses and serve their local government areas diligently, ensuring their work reflects the manifesto of the All Progressives Congress (APC). He emphasized the importance of autonomy granted to the local governments and encouraged the Chairmen to focus on infrastructural development similar to the state level.

In response, the Caretaker Chairman of Konshisha Local Government Area, Hon. Philip Achuah, assured the governor of their commitment to replicating his efforts at the local government level. He appreciated the governor for granting quasi-autonomy to the local government system.
