The personal aspects of Gabriel Jesus’ transfer from Manchester City to Arsenal, have been agreed upon as it was previously reported, and he is now set to have his medical.
The deal accelerated last week, after Arsenal and City finally agreed on a price, with City accepting a deal worth £45 million. Arsenal and City have been in negotiations to sign Jesus for the majority of the past month, after the Gunners identified the Brazilian as a key part of their Summer business.
Since he has fallen down the pecking order over the past several seasons and his future at the club has recently been challenged by the signing of Erling Haaland from Borussia Dortmund, Jesus rejected the offer of a long-term contract at the Etihad Stadium.
Of those teams that showed interest in Jesus, Arsenal were the only side determined to play Jesus in the central-attacking position, which was a key factor in the deal. Another motivation was his friendship with Arsenal’s Mikel Arteta, whom he had worked with for many years at City, while he was Pep Guardiola’s assistant.
Jesus was suitably pleased by Arteta’s explanation of his goals and strategies for joining Arsenal and committed to a five-year contract in north London, to become the club’s highest-paid player. After Brazilian teenager Marquinhos, Porto midfielder Fabio Vieira, and American goalkeeper Matt Turner, Jesus will be Arsenal’s fourth summer addition.
