Ganduje: Court stops EFCC, ICPC from arresting Rimin Gado

Barrister Muhyi Magaji Rimin Gado, the Chairman of the Kano Public Complaints and Anti Corruption Commission, has obtained a restraining order against the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), and other relevant entities, preventing them from conducting further interrogations involving him.

This order was issued by the Kano State High Court, asserting that these agencies are barred from interfering in the operations of the anti-graft institution.

Reports indicate that the EFCC and the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB) had dispatched official correspondence to the state’s anti-corruption commission, expressing their intention to investigate both its activities and its chairman, Barrister Muhuyi Magaji Rimingado.

The legal filing identifies the plaintiffs as the Attorney General of Kano State, Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission, and Barrister Muhuyi Magaji Rimingado. On the other side of the litigation, the respondents listed include EFCC, CCB, and ICPC.

Justice Farouk Lawan Adamu, who presided over the matter, granted an interim injunction on Monday. This injunction unequivocally restrains the respondents, their agents, staff, or anyone associated, from pursuing actions such as invitations, threats, arrests, or any manner of interference in the affairs of the plaintiffs’ staff members or individuals within their employment. This injunction stands in effect until the final determination of the originating motion.

The court has set the date of September 25, 2023, for the hearing of the initial motion, allowing for further legal proceedings in this intricate case.
