Ganduje under fire for asking Kano gov to join APC
Former governor of Kano State, Ibrahim Shekarau, has criticized the call made by the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Abdullahi Ganduje, urging Governor Abba Yusuf and the presidential candidate of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), Rabiu Kwankwaso, to join the APC. Shekarau deemed the invitation unnecessary.
The remarks by Shekarau came in response to Ganduje’s appeal during a stakeholders’ meeting last week, where he invited Kwankwaso and Governor Yusuf to switch their allegiance to the APC.
In a statement, Shekarau expressed his belief that Ganduje should have advocated for peaceful coexistence in Kano State instead. He stated, “My brother, Ganduje came to Kano and invited the governor, Kwankwaso, and others to come and gather in APC. For me, that is not necessary.”
Shekarau emphasized that Ganduje should have called on the people of Kano to maintain peace, irrespective of the leadership in place. He suggested that focusing on unity and peaceful coexistence would have been a more appropriate approach.
The former governor further commented, “Whether you insult them or not, whether they know how to do it or not, they are the ones in power. Whatever it is, it will come to pass. Eight years is just like tomorrow.”
