Genocide: ‘Christians killing Christians in Igbo land’ – Soludo declares

Anambra State Governor, Prof. Charles Soludo, has reacted to U.S. President Donald Trump’s recent statement designating Nigeria as a Country of Particular Concern and threatening military action over alleged persecution of Christians.

Soludo described Trump’s position as a misrepresentation of the realities in Nigeria, particularly in the Southeast, where he said the ongoing violence has no religious undertone.

Speaking during a media chat over the weekend, the governor stressed that the crisis in the region is driven by internal factors rather than faith, noting that those involved are Christians themselves.

“There’s a deeper conversation we must have as Nigerians,” Soludo said. “In Eastern Nigeria, it’s not about religion. People are killing themselves — Christians killing Christians. The people in the bushes are Emmanuel, Peter, John, all Christian names and they have maimed and killed thousands of our youths. It has nothing to do with religion.”

While acknowledging America’s right to express its stance on global issues, Soludo urged for introspection and dialogue to address the root causes of insecurity.

“As a country, America has its own right to have its own views about what is going on elsewhere,” he noted. “But when it comes to what it does, I am sure it must also act within the realm of its own international law.”

The governor expressed optimism that Nigeria would overcome its challenges through unity and honest conversation rather than external intervention.

“In this part of the country, we are 95 percent Christians, and around the Southeast are Christians. The people in the bushes killing people bear Christian names. It is wider than the categorization of Christians and Muslims. Nigeria will overcome, and it will end in conversation,” he said.
