George Alli graces Ogeji Farming competition, urges people to go back to farming 

Rt. Hon. George Alli, on Tuesday attended the maiden edition of the farming competition, OGLEJI K’IDOMA, in Otukpo and supported the organizers of the event with 16 bags of improved maize seedlings, cassava stems and cash donations.

The Otukpo LG Council Chairman, while addressing participants at the event, decried the lack of interest in farming by youths in Benue South and urged the people to go back to farming in order to guarantee food security and self sustanance.

He said, “We used to be called, ‘The Food Basket of The Nation’, but we seem to have lost interest in farming. My advise is that we should all go back to farming in order to guarantee food security and self sustainability”.

The Ogleji farming competition, according to the organizers, is aimed at “..improving the farming culture of the Idoma people”….”and to increase the agricultural value chain of the I do ma’s”. The competition had three persons drawn from each council wards of all the Local Governments in Benue South Senatorial District. The over all winner and participants will go home with various prizes.
