In Monchengladbach, Germany defeated Italy 5-2 for their first win of the Nations League season, which they registered in a dominant fashion.

Hansi Flick’s team were dominant at Borussia-Park, easily brushing the European champions away after drawing each of their previous three Group C meetings 1-1.

Germany never looked back as Joshua Kimmich opened the scoring in the 10th minute, with Thomas Muller scoring early in the second half after Ilkay Gundogan had scored from the penalty spot.

Despite comeback goals from Wilfried Gnonto and Alessandro Bastoni, Timo Werner’s quick double added gloss to a massively stunning victory for Germany.

It was Italy’s first Nations League defeat, and it was a devastating one. The Azzurri started as group A3 leaders, but by the end of the fixture, they had slid to third place, with Hungary shockingly rising to the top after hammering England with four unanswered goals away from home in the other group tie.
