Gift Nyakno Monday, born on 9th December 2001, is an emerging talent in Nigerian football, making her mark as a striker for both UDG Tenerife in the Spanish Liga F and the Nigeria women’s national team.

Club Career: Gift Monday’s club career has been nothing short of exceptional. In January 2021, she was awarded the league’s Player of the Month for two consecutive months, showcasing her prowess on the field. Her remarkable performance continued as she scored a crucial brace, leading FC Robo to a 2–1 victory over the formidable Rivers Angels in March 2021. Gift’s contributions were instrumental in inspiring Bayelsa Queens to clinch the 2021–22 league title, where she also finished as the season’s top scorer.

International Career: On the international stage, Gift Monday has been a prominent figure in Nigeria’s football journey. She represented the country in the 2018 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup held in France. Her leadership qualities were evident when she captained the team to victory at the African Games in 2019, securing Nigeria’s first gold medal in 12 years after defeating Cameroon 3–1 on penalties.

In February 2021, Gift earned a call-up to the senior national team squad for the 2021 Turkish Women’s Cup. Her presence was instrumental as Nigeria emerged as champions, becoming the first African team to achieve this feat. She showcased her goal-scoring ability by contributing an impressive eighth goal in the team’s 9–0 victory over Equatorial Guinea during the tournament.

As her reputation continues to grow, Gift Nyakno Monday’s talent and skills have earned her a spot in the 23-player Nigerian squad for the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023.

Honors: Gift Monday has received several accolades during her career, including being named NWFL Premiership Player of the Month for December 2020 and January 2021. She was also honored as the NWFL Premiership Player of the Season in 2022. On the international front, she played a pivotal role in helping Nigeria secure the Turkish Women’s Cup in 2021.
