Security entails enforcement of laws, rules, regulations and maintenance of order.
For a nation to survive in economy, infrastructural development, human empowerment, education, health, technology, Science, security of lives and properties is inevitable.
If there must be peace, there must be order. If there must be freedom, there must be regulations. If there must be synergy, there must be rules. If there are people, breaking of the laws is inevitable, therefore, enforcement of laws is sacrosanct.
The porosity and lapses in Nigeria Security systems calls for urgent intervention. The problem is not far from lack of Will, passion to serve the nation by some security personnel. Hence, government must go beyond physical to mental training of security personnel.
Factors that causes lapses/porosity in Nigeria security systems.
– Illiteracy…….Many security personnel are not well informed academically. Many of these personnel can hardly speak English language which is Nigeria national language. That is one of the factors. Some of them get annoyed when you communicate to them in National language because they can’t hear, speak or write.
– Lack of diligence….. Most of these security personnel have no passion for their jobs. They are more conscious of themselves than their nation. They put in least and expect most.
– Poverty… Some of these security personnel rushed into the jobs because they needed to survive financially. Their purpose of accepting the employment is to receive monthly payment and not to serve. That is the reason, criminals can be freed once they pay money.
– Recruitment of an unknown…..Many dangerous people have been recruited as security personnel. These guys are not there to secure lives and properties but to kill and destroy recklessly. In this capacity, armed robbers, criminals, drug addicts, drunkards, sex addict, unprofessional are recruited.
How to prevent the lapses and Porosity in Nigeria Security system.
-Employing literates and professionals.
– Carrying out routine check up of the mental/health status of personnel.
– Weekly professional training of personnel?
– Deployment of security gadgets (Cameras)in all parts of the country.
– Government should do everything possible to see that security personnel are not living in the same neighbourhood with civilians. Houses should be built as quarters for them.
– There should be steady power supply. The streets, high ways and roads should be lighted .
– Salary for security personnel should be standard . They should be as well paid when due.
-Unprofessional security personnel should be detected and dismissed.
– Employment of security personnel be transparent.
– Facilities should be provided for the smooth running of administrative affairs
– Military, paramilitary, Police hospitals should be functional.
