President Bola Tinubu has extended warm greetings to Nigerians and Christians around the world on the occasion of the 2024 Christmas celebration.
In a statement personally signed on Tuesday, Tinubu called on citizens to show kindness to those facing challenges and offer encouragement. He also urged Christians to pray for leaders at all levels, reaffirming his belief that Nigeria is on the path to restoration and progress.
The president expressed deep sorrow over the tragic loss of lives in recent stampedes in Oyo, Anambra, and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), offering condolences to the affected families.
The statement read:
“On this joyous Christmas Day, I extend heartfelt greetings to Christians across Nigeria and worldwide as we celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ, as narrated in the Holy Scriptures.
“Christmas represents the fulfillment of divine prophecy and stands as a symbol of love, peace, and unity. It reminds us that light can emerge even in the darkest times, offering solace and hope to all. This enduring belief unites people of all faiths—indeed, God is with us.
“The recent tragic events in Ibadan, Okija, and Abuja deeply sadden us. Our thoughts and prayers remain with those who continue to endure the pain of these heartbreaking incidents. May such misfortunes never again befall our communities, and may the lives of innocents be protected.
“To families who have faced sorrow this year—be it from floods, fires, or other accidents—I offer my deepest sympathies. May you find comfort in your faith, the support of loved ones, and the abiding presence of Jesus Christ. Our compassionate and merciful God is ever close to the weak, the brokenhearted, and the sick.”
Tinubu concluded by emphasizing the spirit of Christmas as a time for reflection, generosity, and unity, urging all Nigerians to embody these virtues in their daily lives.
