An Upper Area Court in Makurdi, Benue State on Monday ordered that a 38-year-man, Godwin Odeh who allegedly attacked and killed a 75-year-old woman be remanded in a correctional facility.
The police charged the suspect with culpable homicide.
The Judge, Rose Iyorshe, who did not take the plea of Odeh, for want of jurisdiction, ordered that he be remanded in the Maximum Federal Correctional Centre, Makurdi.
Iyorshe adjourned the case until August 4 for further mention.
Earlier, the Police Prosecutor, Inspector Veronica Shaagee, told the court that the case was transferred from the Oju Divisional Police Station to Criminal Investigation Department, Makurdi through letter No. AR:3100/BNS/OJ/VOL.5/159 dated July 15, 2020.
Shaagee said one Sunday Odeh of Adekpara Okuro, Oju Local Government Area reported the case at the Divisional Police Station on July 11.
She alleged Odeh hit a 75-year-old woman, Rhoda Agocha, with a stick and she died on the spot.
The prosecution alleged that during Police investigation, Odeh confessed to the crime.
The prosecutor further said the offence contravened the provisions of Section 222 of the Penal Code Laws of Benue State, 2004.
