Goods worth millions destroyed as fire guts Idumota market

A blaze has swept through three buildings situated at the junction of Nnamdi Azikiwe and Docemo in the Idumota locality of Lagos State.

According to reports, the fire broke out around 7 am on Wednesday morning, primarily impacting two 2-storey structures and one three-storey building in the vicinity of the Idumota market.

It is understood that the inferno ravaged numerous shops and warehouses, resulting in the destruction of merchandise valued at millions of naira.

Margaret Adeseye, the director of the state rescue service, stated in a release that the agency is currently unable to confirm the number of casualties or determine the cause of the fire.

Firefighters have been dispatched to the scene to contain the blaze, with efforts ongoing to combat its spread. Resources from fire stations at Ebute Elefun, Ilupeju, and Alausa have been deployed for this purpose.

“The cause of the fire remains under investigation, and efforts are underway to ascertain any potential casualties,” Adeseye stated.
